New Delhi : Brushing aside top businessman Anil Ambani’s threat to sue the Congress for raking up his company’s deal with a French company to produce Rafale fighter aircraft, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday mounted a full-blast attack on Prime Minister Modi as an “accused” for changing the whole defence deal of UPA regime to help just “one businessman”.
“Can you explain ‘Reliance’ on someone with nil experience in aerospace for Rafale deal,” Rahul asked in a dig at the Ambani company which allegedly has no experience in defence production.
According to Rahul, the prime minister went for 36 aircraft through Ambani’s company at Rs 60,000 crore junking UPA’s deal for 126 fighter planes with transfer of technology to public sector Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for just Rs 54,000 crore. Wondering who is to be blamed for the massive loss to the nation in terms of money and loss of opportunity to HAL to have technology for future production, Rahul also had a tongue-in-cheek tweet on Modi’s “Make in India” drive saying — Self ”Reliance” is obviously a critical aspect of “Make in India”.
In yet another tweet, Rahul quipped: “Modi ji – nice touch removing the suit. What about the loot?” — a reminiscence of his past charge against Modi of “Suit-boot ki Sarkar”.
He was only pursuing the charge the Congress levelled on Modi on Tuesday of helping Anil Ambani”s Reliance Defence Limited to get a contract to produce Rafale fighter aircraft as part of the offset obligation, at the cost of HAL.
In a brief interaction with reporters on Thursday, Rahul wondered why no questions were posed to the prime minister on this Rafale deal or BJP president Amit Shah on his son Jay”s businesses.
