New Delhi : The Congress party has debunked union finance minister Arun Jaitley’s claim that within one year of the Modi sarkar the mood of the country has ‘reversed’ from one of gloom to becoming positive about the future.
Commenting on Jaitley’s observations, former union minister Anand Sharma said that they could concede on the term’ reversed’ from the finance minister’s statement.” The Modi government came to power riding high on the expectations and hopes of the people. These have certainly reversed,” he said at a media briefing at the party headquarters. The deputy leader in Rajya Sabha also challenged the finance minister’s claim that decisions were being taken in the Modi sarkar at a fast pace. On the contrary, he accused them of policy paralysis and sought to hit back at them with the same expression that they had used against the UPA.
He charged that there was over “centralization” and a number of top posts in diverse fields, including Lokpal, CVC, CIC and DRDO, and in a dozen scientific institutions, have been lying vacant for long.
“If it is true the government is very decisive, then what is the reason for not appointing the chiefs of these important bodies,” he observed while adding that the delay in decision-making was due to the fact that there was “centralized decision-making now” in the government which has led to “paralysis in decision-making”.
Among other top vacant posts listed by him are chiefs of ICAR, CSIR, ICMR, CDRI, TIFR, SN Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics as also Vice Chancellors of 12 central universities. The appointment of 76 joint secretaries has also been pending.
