Mumbai: Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has given memorable performances in films like “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, “Kick” and “Freaky Ali”, says he believes in working hard and being honest to the craft of acting even after achieving success.

“For me, success is to keep working hard and being honest to the craft of acting. As an actor, I always work hard for essaying a role and be honest to my work,” Nawazuddin said at an event here.

“After looking at the students I felt I have become a student. It gave me motivation to perform better as an actor,” he said.

The “Manjhi: The Mountain Man” actor shared his experiences and journey of becoming a successful actor while interacting with students of Whistling Woods International (WWI) as a part of the fifth Veda cultural hub.

The “Freaky Ali” actor talked about the importance of being an “educated” actor rather than just being a “talented” one.

“I am a trained actor. The interaction reminded me of my days with NSD (National School of Drama). I had practised acting for almost 6-7 years and watched over 100 plays, even before becoming an actor. He also highlighted the differences in acting for a movie and acting in a play,” he added.

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who founded film & media arts institute Whistling Woods International (WWI), says the idea for inviting Nawazuddin was not because he is delivering hit films.

“He has spent 15-20 years learning the craft of acting and in the last few years, he has got recognition for his work. He is delivering great performances with every film,” Ghai said.

“We invited him to share his story with students, so that they understand what it takes to become a celebrity actor and star. We abuse the word dedication. Nawazuddin is the perfect example of dedication,” he added.

Ghai and Nawazuddin had collaborated in 2008 film “Black and White”.

“We have worked together for a film. When you work with an actor of his caliber we need to come up with interesting and challenging roles,” Ghai said.
