Nadal vows to work harder post Rio Open exit

Johannesburg: Spanish tennis maestro Rafael Nadal has vowed to put more hard work in order to get his game back on track following his semi-final defeat in the ATP Rio de Janeiro Open.

The 29-year -old bowed out of the tournament after suffering a 7-6 (8-6), 6-7(3-7), 4-6 defeat at the hands of 45th-ranked Pablo Cuevas.

It was for the second time since 2005 that Nadal has lost a match against a player ranked outside the world top 30.

Reflecting on his performance, Nadal said he had a great chance to win but failed to do so despite fighting till the end, Sport24 reported.

Nadal, who also suffered a semi-final defeat to Austria’s Dominic Thiem in last week’s Argentina Open, admitted that he had to keep working to try to change the dynamics.

The Spaniard will now play in the year’s first Masters Series event,Indian Wells in California from March 20 before by heading into the Miami Masters.
