Murray advances, Wawrinka bows out of Australian Open

Melbourne: World number two Andy Murray breezed into his seventh consecutive Australian Open quarterfinals after brushing aside Bernard Tomic in the fourth round of the tournament on Monday.

The 28-year-old Scottish player outclassed his Australian opponent Tomic 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the contest that lasted for two and a half hour on Rod Laver Arena.

With the win, Murray will now play against David Ferrer for the semi-final berth, who demolished big-serving John Isner in straight sets.

Meanwhile, fourth-seed Stan Wawrinka crashed out of the Australian Open after 4-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 3-6 defeat in the fourth round at the hands of Canadian Milos Raonic.
