Mumbai: The Pant Nagar police have recovered the clothes purchased by the suspended constable Dinesh Pawar for Nikhat Khan (20), who was used as a honey trap to kill Ghatkopar-based diamond merchant Rajeshwar Udani (57). The Vikhroli Magistrate court sent the four accused, including Dinesh, Sachin Pawar, Siddhesh Patil and Praneet Bhoir to judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday.

According to police, Dinesh purchased new clothes for Nikhat from Murud as he wanted to burn the clothes worn by her during the crime. After new clothes were given to her, Dinesh burnt the clothes near Murud, of which two pieces were recovered by the police. The pieces of burnt clothes and hand gloves were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) for further probe.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday The Public Prosecutor (PP) argued in the court that the police are yet to ascertain the reason behind Sachin going to Pune on November 30 and to Guwahati on December 3. Police believe he has hidden crucial evidence at these two places and are yet to recover the evidence to incriminate him in the murder.

The PP also argued, they have seized five mobile phones in a charred state and are yet to get hold of the SIM cards used in the phone, following which the IMEI numbers will be ascertained. Even as the police knows who had made the fake number plate, the PP argued they are yet to identify where was the fake number plate made and who had made it.

Advocate Nivrutti Jagtap argued the prosecution has no strong evidence against his client Sachin since his arrest on December 8. After two police remands, police have named no new development in the remand copies. Advocate Jagtap said, “Police have already seized the mobile phone, Call Data Records (CDR), the car from Sachin. What new are they going to do in the coming four days. Hence Sachin should be sent to judicial custody as his physical presence is no longer required.”

Similar argument was made by the defence lawyers of Dinesh, Siddhesh and Praneet’s lawyer, who claimed everything has been seized from them and they have cooperated enough during the investigation. At the end of the argument, the magistrate sent the four accused to judicial custody.
