Known to be the biggest promenade in Mumbai, Marine Drive is set to lose its title status of ‘biggest promenade’. The BMC is all set to construct a bigger promenade than Marine Drive.
According to the Asian Age, the BMC will build a 6.4 km long promenade along the Worli seaface. This promenade will be a part of BMC’s ambitious coastal road project and will spread across Priyadarshini Park, Haji Ali, to the Worli-Bandra Sea Link. The promenade will be 20 metres (65 feet) wide and 6.4 km long. Mohan Machiwal, chief engineer, coastal road project, told the leading daily, “The biggest promenade in the city presently is Marine Drive, which is 3.5 km long. However, the promenade along the coastal road will be almost double of its length, making it the biggest promenade in the city.”
The BMC will plant local trees across the promenade and will also provide seating arrangement. The civic body has already begun the first phase of the ambitious coastal road project. The first phase includes 9.98 km of road from the Shamaldas Gandhi flyover (Princess Street flyover) to Worli-Bandra Sea Link.
