Mumbai :  The Road Transport Authority at Tardeo has registered the city’s most expensive car in the recent past — a BMW 760 Li security edition. The high end bullet proof car, which comes with a price tag of Rs 8.5 crore, was registered by Reliance Industries Limited a fortnight ago.

The high-tech car is said to be the same that is being used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi; it was selected for the latter as it met his security criteria. This particular model provides the highest available ballistic shield, making it a popular choice amongst the extremely wealthy and those seeking a mobility option with the highest levels of protection.

The car is strengthened and reinforced to protect its occupants against anything, from blunt hand held weapons, to high calibre hand guns, semi and automatic rifles, and bomb attacks. The vehicle can also run on flat tyres for very long distances at speeds up to 80 km per hour. The fuel tank of the car is bomb proof and self sealing, and will refuse to explode even under direct hits of gunfire or other explosives. Under threats of gas attacks the cabin seals and isolates itself from the surroundings and turns into a gas proof chamber. Even the floor of the car is protected and reinforced against explosions.

Confirming the development, the deputy regional transport officer of Tardeo RTO Subhas Pedamkar, said, “The car has been registered by Reliance Industries about 15 days ago.”
