Mumbai : Mayuresh Kelkar of Indian Express and Swagata Dey of Reliance Industries bagged the top honours winning the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the 3rd edition of the 11Even Sports Inter-Corporate TT tournament promoted by NSportz and played at the Khar Gymkhana on Sunday.

The men’s final witnessed a tense battle for supremacy before Kelkar managed to come through against Aakash Damle of TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) in three long drawn games. Damle started promisingly by winning the opening game over extra points. But, he was unable to sustain the momentum and Kelkar replied back by winning the second to level scores. Damle and Kelkar traded the next two games, before the latter put up a steady display in the decider which he managed to clinch and wrap up the match at 13-15, 11-8, 12-14, 11-5, 11-9.

In contrast the women’s final turned out to be a one-sided affair as Dey was in control in brushing aside the challenge from Jay Sikka of ICICI Securities in four games. Dey did well to win the first two games before Sikka won the next to close the gap. But Dey made certain of closing out the match by pocketing a close fourth game for a 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8 win.

Meanwhile, Satish Patel of Reliance industries bagged the veteran men’s singles title defeating Nitish Kumar of Promo Bagh 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9 in the final.
