Mumbai : Mandar Hardikar and Senhora D’Souza emerged men’s and women’s champions, respectively, while Aditi Sinha grabbed a second triple crown and Shubham Ambre a double, in the Matunga Gymkhana 4-Star Mumbai District Ranking Table Tennis Tournament.
Second seed Hardikar overcame ninth seed Bhavitavya Shah 13-11, 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8 after Shah frittered away a 10-8 advantage in the crucial fifth game, while second seed D’Souza interrupted the title-winning streak of top seed Divya Deshpande with an impressive 6-11, 12-10, 8-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6, 11-4 victory.
Top seed Aditi Sinha, winner of a triple crown at the JVPG Mumbai Suburban District Ranking, lived up to her reputation by winning the junior, sub junior and youth girls’ titles, while state No. 1 junior Shubham Ambre won the youth and junior boys’ finals.
Midget girls fourth seed Keisha Jhaveri of D.Y. Patil International, Worli who shocked top seed Hardee Patel in the semi-finals, turned giant-killer with a 3-1 win over third seed Arushi Raut in the final.
Prakash Kelkar, Tanmay Rao, Sampada Bhiwandkar, Jash Modi and Shivam Das were the other champions in the competition.
Senhora D’Souza rallied from 1-3 in an exciting 55-minute championship round against Divya Deshpande who dominated the first half.
