Mumbai: The Diva police arrested one person in connection with rape of a 17-year-old girl. The incident took place at Sabegaon in Diva (E). The accused has been identified as Nabin Vedi (24).
According to the Diva police, “The accused lured the victim with a job offer. Later, he called the girl to meet him at an isolated spot in Kopri (E). Since the girl was known to the victim, she did not suspect any foul play.”
On the way, Vedi spiked the soft drink of the victim; took an autorickshaw and took the victim to a flat in Sabegaon in Diva (E). After sexually assaulting the victim twice, he snatched the SIM-card from her phone so that she could not reach out for any help. Later, the victim came home and narrated the incident to her family.
The family of the victim approached the police and registered a First Information Report (FIR). The police procured the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the accused and traced his location to Shirur near Pune.
According to Senior Police Inspector Korde, “A team was formed to nab the accused. We had received a tip off that the accused was going to visit New Garvaa hotel at Ghodbunder at Kasarvadavli in Thane (W). Vedi was nabbed from the hotel.”
The accused is a resident of Thane.
