Keisha Jhaveri upsets top seed Hardee Patel

Mumbai : Fourth seed Keisha Jhaveri shocked midget girls’ top seed Hardee Patel, Ashwin Subramanian upset junior boys second seed Raegan Albuquerque, while Aditi Sinha remained on course for a second triple crown, in the Matunga Gymkhana 4-Star Mumbai District Ranking Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday.

Keisha, of D.Y. Patil International, Worli, a winner of the recent 5-Star Mumbai City District Championship, rallied from the loss of the opening game to prevail over the favourite 8-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-4 to set up a title clash with third seed Arushi Raut. Keisha’s surprise win set the trend for another upset and close encounters as third seed Ashwin Subramanian upset Albuquerque in straight games to reach the final for a meeting with top seed Shubham Ambre.

Top seed in all categories, Aditi Sinha, winner of a triple in the recently concluded JVPG Mumbai Suburban District Ranking tournament, advanced to the sub junior, junior and youth girls’ championship rounds while overcoming a strong challenge from Vidhi Dhoot who stretched her to the decider in an absorbing junior semi-finals.

Vidhi Shah rallied from 1-3 to beat arch rival Mihika Rohira in a 4-3 thriller to enter the sub junior girls final, before Mihika avenged the defeat to advance to the junior championship round. Bhavitavya Shah, who shocked top seed Shubham Ambre in the semi-finals, will face second seed Mandar Hardikar in the men’s final, while top seed Divya Deshpande will take on second seed Senhora D’Souza in the women’s final.
