Indore: A row of illegally and haphazardly parked vehicles along the road side near Kanchan Bagh Main Road causes a lot of inconvenience to the commuters passing through the area. The road witnesses heavy traffic round the clock because of the shops located in economically proactive Trade Centre. Adding to its woes, people visiting the area park their vehicles in such a manner that the road gets too narrowed down to leave hardly any space for the moving traffic to pass by, creating heavy traffic jams and subsequent chaos in the area.
Traffic police too have admitted that they have received a lot of complaints regarding illegal parking on the road and claimed to have taking regular action against the violators. The parking has been creating a lot of trouble for thousands of two-wheelers as well as light and medium sized vehicles that ply on the busy road throughout the day. Free Press had raised the issue earlier but failed to elicit any response from the authorities concerned.
Apart from creating traffic problem, such haphazard parking at will often results in fights between vehicle drivers, fellow commuters and the road side shop owners, leading to further chaos. It is true that the city is facing massive parking problem, owing to the ever shrinking city space and increase in the number of vehicles, but reckless parking of vehicles in unauthorised spaces surely reflects insensitivity of citizens who would rather aggravate the problem than solving it.
Vikas Sahu, a shop owner in the area, said that he makes it sure that his customers do not park their vehicles on the road side and footpaths so that traffic flow is not obstructed. The commuters should also be patient in case of traffic jams and should avoid putting the traffic movement in disorder, he said.
A businessman having his shop in the area, Sharad Sharma said that “Due to the chaos created by vehicles parked along the road side, traffic movement is hindered causing inconvenience to regular commuters and shoppers. Police officials are also not seen in the area and so, violators fearlessly park their vehicles anywhere.”
Another trader Swapnil Jain said that “Trade Centre is the area frequented by large number of people regularly. So, it is obvious to have too many vehicles parked haphazardly on the road or in the market area. At least two cops must be deployed in the area to keep a check on the drivers parking illegally and in a haphazard manner.”
A regular visitor to the area Abhishek Sharma said that “Trade Centre has a parking facility but people park their vehicles on footpaths and along the road side. A traffic cop must be deployed in the area especially during evening hours to avoid the nuisance.”
