Beijing: Heavy rains and hailstones will lash south China, where rain-triggered floods have already displaced tens of thousands of people, in the next three days, a Met department forecast said today.

More rain and even hailstones are on the way for China’s southwestern and southern provinces as well as regions along the Huaihe and Yangtze rivers, National Meteorological Centre said.

The worst of the rain will come tomorrow and Wednesday with some parts of Sichuan, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shanghai likely to see up to 130 millimetres of precipitation, the national observatory said.

A week of rainstorms has displaced more than 27,000 people in Hunan Province and over 40,000 in Guangdong Province.

At least eight people were killed and six others listed missing yesterday after heavy floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains hit two different provinces in China.

China’s meteorological authority has advised the public to stay alert for hazards.
