Mumbai : Catholic Gymkhana ‘A’ and ‘B’ registered easy 2-0 wins in the team event of doubles to enter the second round of the Matunga Gymkhana Maharashtra state masters inter-club badminton tournament, organized and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana and managed by Shuttle Craze academy under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA).
Catholic Gymkhana ‘A’ beat Mazgaon club and the ‘B’ team defeated Jolly Gymkhana ‘B’. Catholic Gymkhana ‘A’ team’s pair of Anis Badami and Ajay Srivastava secured a comfortable 15-7, 15-7 win over Mazgaon club’s B.V. George and Santosh Kumar in the 90+ combined age group while, the duo of Bibash Chatterjee and Rajesh D’souza ouplayed D.K. Chenna and Anil Kulkarni 15-4, 15-8 in 100+ combined age group. Catholic Gymkhana ‘B’ team’s pairs of Kaldor Salazar and Chandrashekhar Pitre in the 80+ combined age group and Fabian Dennis and Kiran Patil in the 90+ combined age group won their respective matches to progress.
In the other matches, the Indian Navy club, participating for the first time in the event, overcame Jolly Gymkhana ‘A’ 2-1 while, Khar Gymkhana edged past the hosts, Matunga Gymkhana 2-1.
