Dutee Chand, who yesterday made declaration about her same-sex relationship, is now facing trouble with her family who are not accepting her decision. Taking upon the matter, her mother accused Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) of hatching conspiracy to usurp his daughter’s prize money.

“Dutee never shared any details of her earnings, not even about the Rs 3-crore prize money that she was awarded. I am just shocked that she dared to ask us to beg one day when I refused to accept her decision of marrying another girl. Since she spends most of her time in KIIT, I believe that a big conspiracy is being hatched at KIIT where Dutee is presently staying and pursuing her career,” Dutee’s mother told Odishatv.in.

She also revealed that she did not welcome her dughter’s same-sex relationship. “Dutee is a girl and ideally she should marry a man and how can she marry another girl. When I came to know about her same-sex relationship, I told her it would not be welcoming but she said that KIIT lecturers are completely supporting her decision on marrying with another girl” she further said.

She also claimed that some people from KIIT are behind her daughter’s wealth and urged government to protect her daughter’s life. “A group of selfish people with vested interests are emotionally blackmailing Dutee and will eliminate her in a year or two to claim her wealth, so we urge the government to intervene and protect the life and resources of Dutee,” she said.

Dutee, who won two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games, became one of the few athletes in the world to openly admit same-sex relationship. “I am having a relationship with a 19-year-old woman from my village for the past five years. She is studying B.A. 2nd year in a Bhubaneswar college. She is a relative of mine and whenever I come to home, I spend time with her. She is a kind of soul-mate for me and I want to settle down with her in future,” Chand, 23, had told PTI.

Dutee had also revealed that while her parents did not have any objection with her relationship, her elder sister threatened to expel her from the family. “My eldest sister kind of wields power and authority in my family. She has thrown out my elder brother from home because she does not like his wife. She has threatened me that same will happen to me. But I am also an adult who has individual freedom. So, I decided to go ahead with this and make it public”, Dutee had told PTI.

She also said that her elder sister believes that her partner is behind her wealth. “My eldest sister feels that my partner is interested in my property. She has told me that she will send me to jail for having this relationship,” she said. While Dutee refused to name her partner, she said the Supreme Court judgement on the issue gave her the courage to go public. “My partner also agreed that we should make this public and face whatever repercussions it may bring to us. I believe in individual freedom and right to decide how and with whom I will live my life.”
