Companeroes ride to victory on Yogesh Kadam’s header

Mumbai : Yogesh Kadam’s opportunistic lone strike helped Companeroes SC eke out a narrow 1-0 win against Bandra Packers in a well-contested Men’s Premier Division League match of the 15th Bandra West Football League 2016, sponsored by Baba Siddique & Jeeshan Siddique and conducted by the BWFA (Bandra West Football Association) and played at the Dr. Norman Lewis Supari Talao, Municipal grounds.

The only goal of the match came in the 10th minute when Kadam did well to get meet a swerving cross from the right by Aidan Gresseux and with a powerful effort beat Packers goalkeeper Julius Pesso to put Companeroes in front and finish the first half with a slender 1-0 lead. In the second period, Packers worked harder and tried to put pressure on the Companeroes citadel in a bid to find the equalizer. But, the Companeroes goalkeeper Wren D’Abreo and stopper back Daniel D’Souza were rock solid and thwarted all attempts from the Packers’ attackers to secure a win and the three points which also ensured their progress to the quarter-final play-offs.

Meanwhile, Carmelites SC riding on Azfar Noorani’s doubles strikes blanked Sporting Sensation 3-0. 2, Smit Devkar netted the third goal for the victors. In the third game, Athletico Bandra and MW Strikers shared the spoils as they were involved in a 1-1 draw. Zasir Mustafa was on target for Athletico and Kirsten D’Almeida scored for MW Strikers.

Results –

Premier Division: Companeroes SC 1(Yogesh Kadam) beat Bandra Packers 0. Athletico Bandra 1 (Zasir Mustafa) drew with MW Strikers 1 (Kirsten D’Almeida).

Carmelites SC 3 (Azfar Noorani 2, Smit Devkar) beat Sporting Sensation 0.

Young XI 3 (Amar Vakam 2, beat Carmelites Crusaders 0.
