Come, run for a cause at Mumbai Marathon today

Mumbai : The annual Mumbai Mara-thon has grown leaps and bounds since the last 13 years. This event has gained international prominence by receiving remarkable footfall of athletes and participants from across the world.

The 14th edition of the race will see nearly 42,000 runners  participating in the Mara-thon, which is considered as one of Asia’s largest. Out of this total, around 420 foreign nationals, from at least 34 countries, would be running in the marathon.

According to the official statistics provided by the event organisers, a total of 921 senior citizens would be participating. The marathon event would also see 433 differently abled participants.

In addition to this, a total of 287 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) would be running for a cause in this year’s marathon. Also, more than 300 corporate companies would be seen participating.

Interestingly, the US has topped the list of foreign nationals with a total of 48 participants. Also, a total of 49 Indian-origin people would be participating in the event.

All these participants would be running to win a total amount of USD 3870001 (Rs 26, 36, 43, 818 approx.)

This event, which would mark the beginning of 2017, would be under surveillance of the Mumbai Police as a total of 10,000 police personnel are deployed at various nooks and corners of the city.  Several police officers would remain deployed in civil clothes.

In case if any participant needs medical attention, they can go to the 12 medical stations installed at various spots throughout the route of the marathon. The main base camps for medical help would be opposite Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and outside the Azad Maidan.

The organisers have also installed a total of 27 water stations across the marathon route, which would be providing water to the runners. As per official information, a total of 1 lakh, 40 thousand litres of water would be used for this event.

Organiser shells out Rs 23 lakh

Mumbai: After the organiser of Mumbai Marathon made a payment of Rs 23 lakh, the BMC permitted Procam International to display advertisments during the event. A senior ward official, said, “We had issued a letter to Procam International, to pay Rs 5.48 crore as advertisement fees, ground rent and security deposit. But, the organiser approached us and paid Rs 23 lakh as initial amount and promised to settle the remaining sum after the event. We have accepted this offer and allowed it to display advertisement during the event.”
