Chris Church finish third in football

Mumbai : Cathedral & John Connon finished runners-up in basketball, while Christ Church were third in football, in the 28th All Maharashtra Anglo-Indian Schools in India tournament, Maharashtra Chapter, at the Barnes School & Junior College, Devlali.

Cathedral went down to St. Mary’s, Pune 35-51, after enjoying a 23-16 half-time lead. In the process, winners in the last two editions, St. Mary’s completed a hat-trick.

Player of the tournament Anjali Narain top-scored for Cathedral with 16 points, while Sanya Runwal scored 11 and Vedika Jogani added six. St. Mary’s ignored a strong first-half challenge and changed the script by dominating the last two quarters.

In the football play-off, Christ Church beat Cathedral 4-2 via the tie-breaker to finish third, after the teams were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time in the all-Mumbai contest.

Twelve-time winners and defending champions Barnes ‘A’ overcame arch-rivals Bishop’s, Camp, Pune 2-1 in a keenly contested championship round, to retain the football crown.

BASKETBALL

Final: St. Mary’s, Pune 51 (Niyati Bafna 16, Khushi Sanghvi 11) bt Cathedral 35 (Anjali Narain 16, Sanya Runwal 11, Vedika Jogani 6). HT: 22-20.

3/4 play-off: Bishop’s, Camp 51 (Sachi Kulkarni 23) bt Barnes 40 (Kirti Jadhav 29). HT: 16-23.
