Diu is a scenic beauty which calls in for a mesmerizing tour along the coast. It is a Union Territory in the west coast of India and is situated as a connected island in Gujarat. The nearest railway station is Delwada at the distance of 9 km from Diu. Diu has its own airport. You can take flights which ply from Mumbai in order to get there. It has selective number of places to visit but each of these spots will give you a special travel experience.
The fort was built in 1535 during the Portuguese rule. It is one of the New Seven wonders of Portugal built during the colonial rule. You can gain access to the fort from the Ghogla village in the east which is also the entrance for Diu. The monuments within the fort are St Paul’s Church, St Thomas Church and temples.
St Paul’s Church
It was built in Gothic style in the year 1601. The church has beautiful wooden paneling which makes it look all the more authentic. The church is known for its Jesuit art which is typical to India. The church has been constructed under the artisan ship of Indian craftsmen which gives the place a local flavour.
It is a fort situated in the sea. This amazing beauty looks heavenly in its ship shaped structure when lit at night sparkling amidst the roaring waves. The view of this fort can be captured from the main bridge of Diu as well. There are boats which take tourists for the fort visit.
The beach is a beautiful shore with creamy sand and perfect for an outing situated just 1 km from the town. You can spot a small shrine here which is covered with dome houses. There is also a temple of Goddess Chandrika.
A delight for adventure enthusiasts, Naida Caves are located outside Diu Fort. The caves are a network of hewn hollows and steps. One should visit the caves on a sunny day as the rays of the sun get through the natural openings providing a better vision of the interior.
It is situated in the Bucharwada village. The beach is at a range of 2 km surrounded with fringed palms and golden sand. The beach is a safe option for a swim too.
Another beach which is famous for its fishing culture. You can spot colourful fishing boats as you wander around the port. It is the longest beach in Diu and a visit here is a must to get that special exotic experience.
