10 Boys escaped from Mahim Juveniles Home

Mumbai: Ten boys have reportedly escaped from the David Sasson Industrial School, a juvenile observation home based in Mahim.

The missing juveniles who escaped the home are between the age group of 15 to seventeen years. They managed to accomplish the feat at 10:30 pm on Thursday night when one of the staff went to the washroom. The ten boys managed to escape by cutting the window grills of their room. The observation home is set up as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 at the David Sasson home .

Satish Bansode, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of David Sasson Industrial home confirmed the incident of  juvenile boys escaping the observation home.

Speaking to FPJ,  Satish Bansode, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of  David Sasson Industrial home, said “ We have been taking due care regarding the security aspect of the  juvenile home. A committee has also been set up to look into this matter.

I really don’t know how and why the juveniles still fled from the home. While one of the lady staff came downstairs to visit the washroom and nobody else was around to keep a vigil  on the boys , they  managed to escape by cutting open the window grills of their rooms. In a span of fifteen to twenty minutes, the boys ran away from the home. When the staff returned, she found the boys missing.”

 “Necessary action will be taken in this matter in order to avoid such incidents in future. An inquiry committee has been set up,” added Bansode.

A  case has been registered  at Shivaji Park Police station on Friday. According to  Senior Police Inspector, Gangadhar Sonawane, Shivaji Park police station, “Ten  boys  have reportedly  fled the David Sasson Industrial School. They are between the age group of 15 to 17. All the boys who have gone missing  are from Mumbai, Jalna and Pune. We are further investigating the matter.”

The David Sasson Industrial School is an institution certified as a Special Children Home under section 9 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
