Sujata Majumdar in an exclusive interview with the multi-dimensional personality Bipin Pandit whose popular musical group Khumaar recently completed 10 years. A passionate music lover Bipin is associated with many more activities which bring out various traits of his personality.
Khumaar completed 10 years. Tell us something about the special annual event and also about the prime focus of your group.
A: Interestingly, this was my first ticketed show and it became housefull. I am overwhelmed by the response. Actually, the main theme of Khumaar is Diversity of Indian music. Music is the hero of my show. I celebrate music and do not focus on any one music director or one singer. Instead, I make a point to take songs of most of the music directors of India. All music directors have their own flavors carrying the signature of their work. My show is a package of every kind of music. The specialization of my show is in the segmentation which includes every genre of music i.e. classical, quawwali, folk, songs of unsung heroes, etc.. I have audio visual screening in my show which carries interview clips of various celebrities regarding any song, singer or music director. I have started a segment called “Khumaar ki Khoj” as per which I make point to launch and promote new singers in the show every year. My brand remains constant i.e. “Khumaar” and the tagline is “Experience musical intoxication”. When people come to my show they get musically intoxicated. The word “Khumaar” signifies intoxication or “nasha”. This year my presenting partner was Tata Salt, powered by sponsor was Dainik Bhaskar and my associate sponsor was Chitralekha. With the collaboration with Chitralekha we presented a CD containing original tracks of melodious songs to each ticket holder. There were three options of CDs to choose from.

Tell us something about your association with an NGO.
A: I am associated with an NGO named Light of Life so that I can publicize their work. Founder of the NGO is Villy Doctor.
Apart from being an organizer, founder and owner of a musical group, you are also a renowned anchor and mimicry artiste as well. You are also a good singer. Tell us something about your experience.

Bhaskar Das: Khumaar completes a decade of musical existence. Khumaar under its able maestro Bipin Pandit takes the evening full of mellifluous songs to higher level of crescendo year after year. The singers rendered popular and foot tapping numbers with superlative elan. Bipin interspersed the melodies with his inimitable style, heartwarming anecdotes and wow generating shayaris. At the end of the evening one leaves the hall with a feeling of satisfaction that cannot be expressed but has to be felt.
Sam Balsara: It was a fascinating and highly entertaining show and we really enjoyed it. It was a packed house and the entire crowd was excited and participated in what was happening on the stage. Well done Bipin!
