Mumbai: A MCOCA court in Mumbai has convicted gangster Rajendra Nikhalje alias Chhota Rajan while acquitting journalist Jigna Vora and Joseph Paulsen in the killing of Mid-Day senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey. J Dey was shot dead by motorcycle-borne shooters in Powar on June 2011. Meanwhile, this is the first major conviction for gangster Rajan since the deportation to India in 2015. The convicted people include shooters Satish Kaliya, Anil Waghmode, Arun Fake and Mangesh Agavane.
The accused were booked for murder and criminal conspiracy, among other charges. They were booked under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Following is the chronology of events in the J Dey case.
