Indore : Unable to bear torture done by her husband and in-laws, a 26-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide after strangulating her two children to death here, police said on Tuesday.
Shraddha Jat strangulated her two children – Pari (1) and Rajveer (3) – with a rope and a stole, respectively, and thereafter hanged herself at her residence under the Aerodrome police station limits last night, Additional Superintendent of Police Rupesh Dwivedi said.
Only Shraddha and her kids were in the house when she took the extreme step, he said. Bodies were found by the landlord when he didn’t find doors open for a long time.
Police have also recovered a suicide note in which the Shradha wrote about torture for dowry. However, police have been going through minute examination of the note and taking help of writing experts before reaching any conclusion.
Dwivedi said it has come to light that the she was being tortured by her husband and his family for the last couple of days.
However, police is probing the reason behind the harassment, the officer said.
The deceased was residing in a rented accommodation with her children and husband in Laxmipuri as there was frequent power cuts in her in-laws house in Gandhi Nagar, sources said.
Deceased’s father Girish Desai alleged that her husband and in-laws were harassing her for dowry from a long time. He alleged that they were forcing her to bring Rs 5 lakh and were beating her often.
“Her husband Yogesh works in a printing firm at Khajuri Bazaar. He had started harassing my daughter after few months of their marriage and also burnt him with a wooden stick few days ago,” Girish alleged.
He said that he used to give money to her daughter for household expenses as Yogesh tortured her when she asked for anything.
“Shraddha had come to our place in Rakshabandhan. Her husband had gone somewhere since then and he didn’t even return after two days when Shraddha returned her home back,” he said.
She was under depression from a long time and her husband was not replying to her phone calls. Shraddha’s in-laws didn’t even reach the hospital during autopsy.
