Indore : In today’s computerised world, carrying electronic cards is more convenient than trundling piles of papers around. Well-versed of this fact, Indian Institute of Technology-Indore has upgraded to smart card.
It has launched smart card facility for students, faculty and staff which alleviates the need for carrying significant number of papers.
“The smart card facility has turned IIT Indore into a cashless campus. Now, you need not have to carry your wallet every time with you,” IIT Indore media in-charge Dr Nirmala Menon said.
The card serves as campus card and allows students to check out books through library, gain access to labs and parking areas, and manage attendance.
This card can also be used as a debit card at campus restaurant (canteen) and dispensary. Besides, the students can also avail printing, scanning and photocopying services through this card and buy tickets in market bus and pay overdue fee in library.
“Semester tuition fee can also be paid through these cards,” Menon said. In addition to these facilities, this card serves as photo identity card. Security features have also been added to this card so that it could not be misused in case it is lost.
“The card is highly secured. The card holder’s fingerprint/PIN is required for all the cash transaction done in the campus in various devices,” Menon said.
With this facility, the IIT Indore has joined the club of a few elite institutes in the country which runs the facility.
