Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh): A video of two youths, tied to an electric pole and being thrashed by villagers has gone viral on social media.
The video is said to be of Ratlam district's Semalia-Bamankhedi village under Tal police station, where two Muslim youths were allegedly beaten up by crowd on suspicion of goat theft on Monday.
The video of the incident went viral on social media on Sunday, though the police said that they were yet to receive the video.
According to reports, two youths identified as Shahjad and Ameen were caught by villagers on suspicion of goat theft. The villagers accused the youths of stealing a goat belonging to Dhan Singh.
They tied the youths to an electric pole and thrashed them up. The video that went viral on social media shows the crowd beating up the youths.
Later, a police team from Tal police station reached the village and rescued the youths.
Another video that also went viral on social media shows a policeman rescuing the youths.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Ratlam Gaurav Tiwari could not be contacted even after repeated attempts for comments, but police sources from Tal police station confirmed the incident and said that one villager Dhan Singh had lodged a complaint of goat theft.
“We are yet to receive the viral video, but Dhan Singh has lodged a complaint against two youths for stealing his goat,” said a policeman from Tal police station.
He added that the youths who were beaten up had not lodged any police complaint so far.
