Indore: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the regulatory of technical education in the country, on Friday asked universities to decide queries related to qualification required for recruitments at their state government level.
Through a circular, AICTE member secretary Rajeev Kumar said that AICTE keeps on receiving a large number of representations/grievances, not only from faculty members of AICTE approved institutions but also from the faculty members graduated from various IITs, NITs, university departments and deemed universities pertaining to their eligibility, suitability and promotions to employ as assistant professors, associate professors or professors for different departments due to the deviations in nomenclature of their qualifying degree at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Grievances are also received about suitability of candidates for a particular department if the PhD is carried out from the departments other than the employing department.
In view of this, AICTE has already published the gazette notification, "Major/Core Branch of Engineering/ Technology and their relevant/appropriate courses leading to degree in Engineering/Technology for recruitment to teaching positions" dated on April 28, 2017, which comprises all the nomenclatures which AICTE had approved for their institutions to run.
“It is beyond the scope of the AICTE to include and update form time to time the nomenclatures offered by various IITs, NITs, universities, etc as these organizations/institutions are empowered to start courses with the approval of their BoG/Senate/Management Council/ Academic Council or from UGC without the knowledge of AICTE,” the circular reads.
It adds, hence making an exhaustive list of nomenclature to give further clarity is not practicable for AICTE not it is necessary.
The AICTE said that the BoG of the concerned institution on the recommendation of duly constituted selection committee and with the approval of their respective State /Central Government/University/DTE etc as applicable may take appropriate decision on relevant qualifying degrees suitable for recruitment to teaching positions especially keeping in view interdisciplinary nature of emerging technologies. The same should however be notified at the time of advertisement for the posts.
“Incumbent faculty recruited in the past based on their qualification acquired will continue to be eligible in the departments they were recruited to if found to be eligible as per the AICT'E norms prevailing at that time,” the circular adds.
The AICTE said that such queries be resolved at the state or the university level and need not be raised to AICTE level.
