Indore : Lackadaisical attitude of health department employees came to fore on Thursday when civil surgeon conducted a surprise check at Urban Health Centre at Sudama Nagar and found it closed, two hours before the official day ended.

Civil Surgeon Dr Dilip Acharya issued show-cause notices to the staff. He also directed deduction of one-day salary of the erring staff.

Dr Acharya reached the Urban Health Centre, located in Sudama Nagar, at 6 pm on Thursday. The peer team was shocked when they found the health centre closed as the official timing of the centre is 12 pm to 8 pm but it was closed before two hours of time.

“We reached the health centre at 6 pm but the centre was locked. When we called the in-charge of the centre Dr Shailendra Goswami, he told us that he had left the centre just few minutes ago,” Dr Acharya said.

He said that Dr Goswami told him that the centre was open when he left and other staff was present. The centre in-charge also told the Civil Surgeon that he is coming back in few minutes, but didn’t return for one hour.

“It was irresponsible behaviour of the staff and the doctor as they closed the centre two hours before time. We have served the show-cause notices to Dr Goswami and five other employees posted at the centre,” the civil surgeon said adding “We will also cut the one day salary of the staff. The checking drive will continue and we will act against all those who are not doing their work properly.”

State government had started the Urban health Centres to extend healthcare facilities to residents staying near the facility. Healthcare staff has been psoted at these centres to ensure that priliminary care is provided to the people without hassles of travelling long distances.
