Indore : Demanding abolition of toll booths across the country and opposing tough provisions in the new Motor Vehicle Act, the transporters, truckers, bus operators, magic and auto drivers have called for indefinite strike from October 1.

President of All MP Road Transport Struggle Committee Rajendra Singh Trehan said that the transport industry was facing difficulty due toll plazas. These plazas are also responsible for wastage of precious fuel. According to statistics, stoppages at toll plaza are causing wastage of fuel worth Rs 87000 cr every year. This puts additional burden on common people. We have offered to pay the toll charges in advance, but the government is not accepting. Hence we have decided to go on indefinite strike from October 1.

The truckers are also demanding TDS should be abolished from the transportation industry. The flying squads of the Transport Department should also be abolished.

Opposing tougher provisions in the Motor Vehicles Act, passengers and school bus operators, magic and auto drivers have decided to join the strike beginning from tomorrow. Singh said that the strike is being a part of the nationwide strike.
