Indore : Three women, who visited a jewellery shop in Malwa Mill area on Wednesday to perpetrate theft, were nabbed by the shop owner on Wednesday.

However, before being nabbed, one of the women managed to slip a box of silver anklets to her male accomplice, who fled the scene with his friend on a bike. Two more women, who were waiting outside the shop in an auto rickshaw, also escaped.

Tukoganj police said the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Kaji Ki Chaal. Three women entered the jewellery store owned by Rajkumar Soni. They were accompanied by two men, one of whom stayed outside with the motorcycle. Two more women were also waiting in an auto-rickshaw outside the shop.

One of the women told Soni that she wanted to purchase silver anklets and while Soni got busy with showing her merchandise, the women slipped the box of anklets to her male accomplice. The man quickly went outside and got on the motorcycle with his friend and started to flee.

When Soni saw the man trying to move away with the box of jewellery, he raised an alarm and tried to nab the man, but by that time the duo had escaped. The commotion brought his neighbours to the spot who nabbed three women trying to escape as well. The two women waiting in the auto-rickshaw lost their nerve as their friends were caught and they too fled.

Soni said that the box contained jewellery valued at Rs 10-15000. Tukoganj police said that the accused were identified as Sunita, Suman and Premlata, all from Dewas. They were booked for theft and are being questioned about their escaped accomplices and the police hope to nab them soon.

A woman, who was part of the crowd, told the police that one of the men had looted her jewellery worth Rs 50,000 at knife point from her about a month ago.
