Indore : Like previous years, students of Indian Institute of Management Indore will organise a marathon in the city on October 2. This is the eighth season of marathon which is quite popular in the city for its themes.
This year’s theme is ‘Run to empower the old’. The registration process for the marathon has begun.
“Students of IIM-I have stepped into diverse fields of lifestyle time and again, and proved their versatility. This time they are back with the annual 11-km run driven by a social cause, albeit in a new makeover – Udaan, which was formerly known as Indore Marathon. Udaan, literally means to take flight and to soar the skies and that is what these students urge residents of the city to do,” one of the organisers Varun Doval said.
Each year the 11-km run associates itself with a social cause prevailing in the society. The event started in the year 2008, and has since been organised every year.
This year the marathon brings the ignored elderly of the society under the limelight of Udaan. “As per records, India has 100 million elderly, of which 30 million lived alone and 90 percent worked for a living. This initiative aims to bring to the forefront the elderly who have been neglected for far too long,” said event coordinator Akash Shrivastava.
Udaan-2015 is going to be an 11-km run from the Dusshera Maidan to the IIM Indore campus. A 3km Dream Run will also be organised inside the campus.
Each year, winners from various categories receive accolades, while the marathon sees participations from students, corporates and people from all walks of life. “The expected turnout this year is around 8000 people,” said Akash.
The marathon coincides with Gandhi Jayanti, and requests people to commemorate his birthday by helping create awareness about the cause that plagues the length and breadth of this country. There is no registration fee for Udaan-2015.
The event has been kicked off with the initiation of registration through social media platforms and the website.
