To offer ‘ ardhya’ to setting Sun today
Indore : On the second day of Chhath puja, a festival of worshipping setting and rising sun, devotees followed the rituals strictly and offered kheer, chapati and sweets to the deity on Sunday. Devotees observed a full day fast on Sunday and took ‘ Kharna’ prasad in night. They are preparing for the last two days of the Chhath puja.
Notably, the Chhath Puja is performed in order to thank the Sun god for sustaining life on earth and to request him to grant certain wishes because he is considered as God of energy and source of life. It is celebrated on the sixth day after Diwali with religious fervor in northern states of the country. President of Chhath Puja Mahotsav Samiti, Shyam Nagar TN Jha said that the third day is most important day of the festival as the Chhatvrati ( who observes Chhath fast) go to river banks and offer ‘ ardhya’ to the setting sun. He said that devotees will offer banana, sugarcane and other sweets to Sun god.
Jha further said that a water reservoir of 30×40 ft has been made for the devotees to perform the ‘ ardhya’ at Shiv temple of Shyam Nagar annex. He further said that the ardhya to the rising Sun on the fourth day is also very important and it will be performed from 4 am on November 20. Jha said that the devotees, who worship Sun during the Chhath festival, have attained prosperity and progress throughout the year. A ‘ bhajan’ programme will also be organized on November 19 in the temple premises.
