Teachers asked to make edge over students to educate them

Indore: An interactive workshop cum discussion was organised by a group of economics educatocaférs at a café on Monday. Chief guest Prof Dr Avinash Desai stressed on development of logical reasoning by using more ifs and buts while teaching a concept. He suggested connecting the children more with the society and its problems to make them a better citizen.

Guest of honour Ajay k Sharma talked about importance of educators in building a child’s life. “I appreciate that teachers from all the schools are willing to discuss and improvise their teaching techniques for making economics easier and fun for children,” he said.

Talking about techniques of teaching economics, coordinator Rashmi Panwar said, “We are now teaching 21st century children laced with technology, facebook, instagram, twitter….and they know more than us.” She noted that teachers need to update their knowledge and make an edge over students to educate them.

“Modern day teacher need to act like a guide, facilitator and needs to divert the energy of students towards innovation and creativity,” Rashmi said, adding that teachers need to plan class activities effectively to make the class more interactive.

Planning activities with teachers that can be used to teach economics, practical case studies on economic issues like ewaste management, alternative sources of energy, minimum support price and farmers’ problems were discussed in an interactive game. The game explained various concepts like inequality, types of poor- absolute poor, chronic poor and transient poor.
