Symbiosis unveils plans for Indore campus

Indore : Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences, Indore, that is to come up at Supper Corridor next year will provide degrees in high growth sectors such as Automotive, Construction, Manufacturing, Retail, Banking, Finance and IT.

The Indore campus of the university will provide undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral degree programs focused on developing skill-based competencies in the youth of the country in line with industry needs, institute sources said on Thursday.

“Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences has achieved a milestone in the establishment of the University, we will officially be singing an MOU with our Industry partners on June 30 at SCDL Pune,” said Ignesh Sakri, Business Head, Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning.

Announcing plans for Indore campus, he said the university will offer courses in growth sectors where employment opportunities are high.

The University campus at Indore is spread over 30 acres of land at Supper Corridor. A state of art infrastructure of over 10 lakh sq feet with academic block, hostels, mess, labs etc, is planned in the first phase.

Apart from this, the university will have an industrial workshop and Centre of Excellence equipped with high end machinery, tools and simulation based training kits to impart skills to students.

An industrial R&D park is also being planned, where leading companies will put up training facilities for students. An entrepreneurship cell and incubation centre will also be set-up on the university premises.

The university has planned a School of Interdisciplinary Sciences & Foreign Languages which will enable students to acquire skills in local and foreign languages as well as groom them in soft skills and personality development.

A Community College and Community Resource Center will also be created, which will offer empowerment and livelihood oriented short term courses to local farmers, women and children. The university will start its operations in 2016.

Industry Collaboration: The industry will play a critical role in the academic framework of the university. Through, industry collaborations, Symbiosis is actively engaging with leading companies for curricula development, on the job training and creation of production oriented labs, which will give real-life, practical experience to students.

Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences has already signed MoUs with Larsen & Toubro, Gajra Gears, National Steel and Agro Industries Ltd, CARGILL India Pvt. Ltd, Ruchi Group and is in dialogue with Tata International, METRO, Mittal Group, MAHLE, Siemens, Lucas Nuelle and Wuerth for collaboration. The university will ink MoUs with the above-mentioned companies on June 30.

MoU with MAN Trucks India Pvt Ltd: MAN Trucks will be a knowledge partner for Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences in Automotive sector. MAN Trucks shall provide support for setting up a training Academy on the University premises, to cater to the skilling needs of the automotive sector, through industry relevant skilling programmes. MAN will also participate in curricula development, faculty training, student internships and placements.

MoU with HDFC Bank: HDFC and Symbiosis will jointly develop degree programmes in the Banking sector. HDFC will actively participate in training of students by giving them exposure to the Banking sector and engaging them in day to day banking operations.

MoU with Future Group: Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences will work closely with Future Group in the retail sector. Future Group will set up a mock store on the University premises, to integrate theory with practice. Comprehensive retail curricula will be developed jointly, to meet the challenges of the ever growing retail sector.

MoU with Reliance Capital: As part of the MoU, Reliance Capital will set up a financial plaza on the University premises. Besides catering to the skilling needs of the students at the University, the financial plaza will also provide an opportunity to the local community to understand financial investments and instruments. This is the first time Reliance Capital has joined hands with an academic institution in the finance sector.
