Indore : Health and Family Welfare minister Narottam Mishra announced that the state government would soon ban all tobacco products in the state. He said that the process for banning these harmful products is on and the government will issue order for it as early as possible.
While addressing media persons in no tobacco oath ceremony ‘Tambaku: Abhi Nahi Kabhi Nahi,’ organised by NGO Nanhe Farishte on Thursday, Mishra said “We have banned gutkha pouches in the state and now we are planning to ban all products including tobacco at the earliest. Not only the tobacco products but we will ban other products like spurious mouth fresheners and ‘sada’ pouches after getting the laboratory report.”
On the question of the implementation of ban, Mishra said that at the time of banning gutkha pouches, people had said that it was not possible. Some of them had also appealed in the court but the government made it possible and once again it will be done.
“We are also taking legal suggestions for banning these harmful products. We have also learnt about the cases of selling of prohibited pouches and we will certainly act against the guilty,” he said.
The health minister further added that he would concentrate on implementation of the ban and will also monitor the cases closely.
Like Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Mishra also avoided the questions over MPPSC and MPPEB scams.
