Indore : The Bar Council of India (BCI) has submitted in the Supreme Court suggestions gathered from all state bar councils, including that of Madhya Pradesh, for bettering the Collegium System in order to make it independent and transparent.
The suggestions were invited by a special 5-judge bench of the Apex Court that is hearing the matter on Collegium System. The matter was heard on November 3 and 5.
“Large numbers of suggestions have been received by the Apex Court,” the state bar council office said. Following the orders from the Supreme Court, the BCI has convened a meeting of representatives from all state bars, Bar Associations of the High Courts, Supreme Court Bar Association and other concerned.
The suggestions received in the office of the BCI were submitted to the Apex Court on November 13, the last date for the same.
The issue of transparency, Collegium secretariat, eligibility criteria and complaints are to be considered and the Councils/Associations were supposed to give their suggestions in writing to the BCI so that the same could be placed in proper format before the Apex Court. Therefore, the BCI had gathered suggestions from the State Bar Councils and others.
