ADM and Nodal Officer of assembly elections Nidhi Nivedita has said that the administration is taking maximum care for security of EVMs and VVPATs and it is done as per the norms of the Election Commission (EC). She further said, “If a candidate or his/her representative approaches us for personal vigil, permission will be given as per the norms of EC.
The ADM was talking to media persons on the sidelines of Standing Committee meeting held at Collector’s office, on Saturday. Replying on security of voting machines and the permission of personal vigil, she said that EVMs are kept in strong room as per the security norms of the EC. She added that if a candidate or his representative wants to keep vigil of EVMs, he/she can get permissions as per set norms of the ECI.
Earlier, addressing the standing committee meeting, she said that after conducting polling peacefully on November 28 in the district, all Electronic Voting Machines and VVPTS were kept in the strong rooms with tight security arrangements at Nehru Stadium. Nivedita, Deputy District Election Officer Rajneesh Shrivastava along with other officers, office-bearers of different political parties, candidates and their agents were present in the meeting. In the meeting, she Nivedita said: We are following guidelines of the Election Commission regarding security of strong rooms. On the occasion, public representatives also gave some suggestions.
