Guna: Congress party general secretary and party’s candidate from Guna – Shivpuri Lok Sabha seat Jyotiraditya Scindia filed nomination papers on Saturday. Scindia was accompanied by wife Priyadarshini Raje and other state leaders. Jyotiraditya Scindia who is seeking fifth term from the parliamentary seat held a road show to reach Shivpuri district collector office. His wife Priyadarshini Raje was already present at office when he arrived. Guna Lok Sabha seat will go to polls on May 12.

Before filing nomination, Scindia visited famous Hanuman Tekri Sarkar, Chadashah Bali Dargah, Jain temple and gurdwara on Friday. Scindia entered Lok Sabha for first time in 2002 by-polls after death of his father who represented this seat then. In 2004, Jyotiraditya Scindia won seat with 80,000 votes.In 2009 Lok Sabha polls, he defeated BJP‘s Rao Desh Raj Singh with over 4 lakh votes. Despite massive Modi wave in 2014 Lok Sabha election, Jyotiraditya Scindia managed to retain the traditional se at with margin of over 1 lakh votes.
His father Madhavrao Scindia and grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia also represented Guna Lok Sabha seat several times. Guna and Chhindwara Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh are considered as stronghold of Congress party.Bharatiya Janata Party has not yet declared its candidate from Guna Lok Sabha Seat against Scindia.Scindia who has been appointed as general secretary incharge of west UP has been tasked with reviving party in UP along with Priyanka Gandhi.
Scindia played a crucial part in ensuring party’s win in 2018 state assembly polls after 15 years. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is expecting similar result from Scindia in Uttar Pradesh. Scindia has been given responsibility of 39 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh including Saharanpur, Kairana, Gautam Budh Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Baghpat.
