Indore : Taking a lesson from Tuesday’s mob violence at Regal Square when over 10,000 people gathered to protest some remarks made against a religious head, the police administration has set up a mechanism to monitor activities of people, who try to spread rumours on social media and provoke people.
The police admn said from now onwards, the rally organizers would have to deploy at least 10% of the total gathering as volunteers for smooth movement of traffic.
The police and district administration have also made it clear that they will take stern action against those who try to vitiate peace in the city.
District Magistrate P Narahari and DIG Santosh Singh gave strong message in the Peace Committee meeting held here on Friday at the Collector’s office.
The meeting was called in the backdrop of unlawfully gathering over 10,000 people of a particular community at Regal Square on Tuesday last. Later, it came to light that some people had used social media, WhatsApp, to provoke the youth to gather there for the demonstration. The call for gathering was circulated via WhatsApp. In view of that, the DIG said that police have set up a mechanism to monitor circulation of rumors on social media. The IT cell of the department would intercept such messages and accordingly action would be taken against those who would found involved in the drafting and circulation of such messages.
