Indore : Following the orders of State Transport Department, officials of the Regional Transport Office here is going to launch a drive against sleeper buses, which are violating the Motor Vehicle Acts.
The department has also been planning to make amendments in the Motor Vehicle Act to act against these buses, as there are no set rules for sleeper buses in the state.
Taking advantage of this drawback, the operators build body of sleeper buses without following standard guidelines.
During a high-level meeting held recently, Transport Minister Bhupendra Singh had directed the officials to visit other states to check the rules for sleeper buses and the facilities provided by them.
Singh had also directed the officials to take action against these buses for four days in a week but after two weeks, the drive was put under cold storage.
RTO MP Singh said, “We will once again start inspecting sleeper buses and seize them if they violate Motor Vehicle Act.”
He also added that they were also getting complaints against non-stop buses for taking passengers from ransom.
“The non-stop buses get permission for plying from departing station to the destination and they are not allowed to stop in between. We are going through the complaint received against these buses and will act against them too,” Singh said.
