Indore : The Income Tax Department seized Rs 2 crore cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.56 crore from five leading road and bridge contractors, on Thursday.

The department sources said that large amount of Income Tax evasion would be expected after the completion of survey. In the meantime, the department completed surveys at 7 locations but action at 20 other locations were still on.

The Income Tax department’s biggest ever action which began on Wednesday continued on Thursday also.

The teams are still carrying out surveys at the residences and offices of PD Agrawal, BR Goyal and Punit Agrawal, Ashish Agrawal and Shailesh Agrawal.

However, highly-placed sources of the IT Department said that the survey actions at 7 locations had been completed. So far, Rs 10 cr hundis, Rs 2 cr. cash and jewellary worth Rs 2.56 cr were seized from different locations. Besides, large numbers of document were also seized, which would be examined later. Sources further added that the search action was expected to complete on Friday and thereafter the exact amount of tax evasion could be ascertained. It is claimed that the unaccounted money would cross Rs 100 crore.

It may be notable that over 160 IT officers along with 90 policemen started the search and survey actions on 27 locations of three groups, on Wednesday in Indore and Mhow, simultaneously.
