Indore : The big fish of city’s hospitality and wellness industry are on the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) radar. These buildings will be inspected to find out discrepancies in their self-assessed property tax returns and actual amount.
Additional Collector (Revenue) Devendra Singh said that they had received directions regarding the same from the Directorate of Urban Administration and Development Department, Bhopal following which they identified the buildings to be scrutinized in the first phase.
Singh said that they would continue to take action as directed by the Government. Scrutiny of filed returns and on-site verification would be carried out for the corporates first. In the decreasing order of tax amount, scrutiny of other properties will be undertaken. Residential properties will be inspected too.
The State Government has issued the order that the Lok Ayukta himself should carry out inspection on the following lines:
1. The self-assessed tax returns of at least one big residential property to be scanned every week.
2. Returns of at least five properties found under GIS/MPHS to be inspected.
3. Monthly application of the inspection to be submitted in the set format by 10th of every month.
It may be noted that the property tax, which is an important source of revenue for the IMC, is not devoid of irregularities owing to the self-assessment technique being followed. To verify the same, this measure of survey and inspection will be initiated as ordered by the government.
