Indore : Facing growing incidents of highway robberies by motorcycle-borne youths, police have formed special teams for night patrolling on highway roads in and around the city. “We have constituted teams specially to nab highway robbers. The teams will be on the prowl in night on highways passing through the city,” said SP (East) OP Tripathi.
The patrolling team will be armed with a mobile van and service revolvers. Each team will be led by an assistant sub inspector (ASI). In past six month, many incidents of loot took place on Bypass, Ring Road and Supper Corridor. Some people even lost their lives in loot incidents wherein miscreants stabbed them for petty things like mobile phones, wrist watches and cash.
“Muggers take advantage of deserted highways and attack commuters passing by. They commit incidents fearlessly because they know police will be busy in the city,” Tripathi said. He said that police have always ensured that people do not fall prey to looters on highway and now has strengthen our vigil on roads like Bypass, Ring Road and Supper Corridor.
Supper Corridor is being used mostly by the well-to-do people who have to move back and forth to the city airport. So police have decided to deploy two vans on the Supper Corridor.
“We will lay a special vigil on this record because robbers know that this road is used by affluent people,” the police department said.
