Indore : A police constable was arrested for allegedly molesting a 40-year-old woman in a moving train on Monday. The accused, Narayan Singh Thakur (32), posted at the MP police’s radio department in Bhopal, molested the woman in the Indore-Bhopal passenger train Sunday night, GRP Superintendent of Police Maheshchandra Jain said.

Thakur was on way to Ujjain on Simhastha-related duty, he added. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim with the GRP after she reached Indore, Thakur was arrested and his medical examination was conducted, he said.

The woman claimed that she had boarded the train with her son and niece, but were allotted different berths. Thakur offered her help in getting adjoining berth and led her to an upper berth when the train reached Bairagarh.

When she got on to the berth, Thakur tried to join her. Alarmed, the victim jumped down and returned to her original berth.

The constable followed suit and later made obscene gestures forcing her to raise an alarm, she claimed. A squad of RPF patrolling the train arrived in the same coach and overpowered the accused. The victim lodged a complaint in Indore and the accused was handed over by the RPF.

Thakur was booked under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with an intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC. He was produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
