Indore : A sweetmeat shop owner and his aides stabbed a farmer to death and left another severely injured after attacking them with swords, knife and iron rods on a petty issue in Musakhedi area on Thursday night.

The incident caused tension in the area as mob pelted stones at the shop, damaging goods and cars parked on the premises. Police rushed to spot and resorted to mild cane charge to control the angry crowd.

The deceased farmer belonged to Khati community and the community members staged demonstration at Azaad Nagar police station and demanded quick action against the accused. Former MLA Jitu Jirati also reached at the police station to join the protest with the community members.

Later, police detained four accused and started interrogation. According to police, the incident took place at about 7 pm when Rajnish Patel, a resident of Khatipura, was returning from Khudel on a tractor.

“The upper part of the tractor was rammed into ‘Srinath Sweets’ shop’s tin-shade after which the shop owner Harsh Joshi and his aides Govind and Murali started abusing Rajnish, who also called his friends Maruti and Mahesh Patel there to support him,” police said.

The argument soon turned into a clash and the shop owner attacked the trio with swords and knifes.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where Mahesh Patel succumbed to his injuries. Later, the family members of Mahesh were also beaten by the accused when they reached at the spot.

Learning about the incident, a large number of people from the Khati community reached at the spot and pelted stones at the shop and vehicles parked there. The angry mob also tried to block the Ring Road but was pacified by the police later.

According to SP (East) OP Tripathi, “A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered against the owner of Srinath Sweets and his accomplices. We have also detained four people and started interrogating them.”
