Indore : The prolonged complaint of non-availability RO water purifiers to passengers at the local railway station would be addressed soon. Railway has decided to install a total of 12 i.e. 2 each water vending machines at 6 local platforms including 2 under construction at Bal Vinay Mandir.

Western Railway has decided to avail the facility at total 28 stations of Ratlam Division, including the city railway station. A detailed proposal in this regard is being sent to the Railway Board and is expected to be approved shortly. Official sources said that there were persistent complaints from passengers about the non-availability of pure and safe drinking water at the city railway station. However, it has been decided to avail RO water to passengers at a reasonable rate.

The facility would be made available in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode by the commercial wing of the railways, IRCTC. According to the sources RO water would be available in sealed bottles and through taps. After showing the railway ticket RO water would be given to the passengers. The machines would be installed at both ends of a platform. The locations of installation of water vending machines have already been identified. As soon as the railway board approves the proposal the process of the installation of machines would start. Presently only one cooler each is operational at all the existing 4 platforms.

It may be recalled that since a long time the passengers were complaining about the unavailability of pure drinking water at all the platforms. Similarly, members of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) and Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) raised the demand for the facility in the DRUCC and ZRUCC meetings with the visiting GM of WR and DRM.
