Indore: “ We should eliminate the increasing tendency of buying health care of our child by giving extra bucks instead of providing him proper care,” Veteran paediatrician and medical director of Mumbai’s Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, Dr K Amdekar said.
“ Frequent fluctuation in weight is an alarming signal for parents to visit to a paediatrician. The first two years, the body weight, height and other two parameters should be monitored by the parents on a monthly basis. Same monitoring should become quarterly the next two years, followed by half- yearly growth monitoring in the fifth and sixth year,” Dr Ambedkar said.
Dr Amdekar also emphasized on the vaccination of children and said that parent’s must get their child vaccinated for the DPT, BCG, Polio and Measles. Parents should never neglect Hepatitis- B and HIB vaccinations which protect the child from pneumonia and meningitis diseases. The MMR vaccination is also must for every child, he said.
