Indore : Activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged demonstration against the principal of Al Farooq Unani Medical College at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya and demanded his immediate termination on Monday.
Activists led by Vikas Nandwana and Amit Patel submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor demanding action against the college and the principal.
The activists also presented the video clipping of the principal Salim Akhtar in which he was demanding donation amount from the students to get admission in the college and the copy of FIR lodged against him for beating a student after objecting to give donation.
“We have also demanded of the vice-chancellor to conduct an immediate inspection of the college after constituting a committee. The committee should include a representative of NSUI and student union,” Nandwana said.
Acting on the complaint of NSUI, Registrar of the university served a notice to the college administration to probe into the matter by constituting a committee and to take action against Akhtar.
Registrar also mentioned that university will suspend the affiliation of the college on repetition of the incident.
It is to be noted that a police case was registered against Akhtar for allegedly assaulting a student Saddam, who reportedly objected to the demand of donation by the college for granting admission.
Saddam along with his brother had gone to the college for admission in Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) course.
He alleged that the college demanded hefty donation from him. As he objected to the demand, the college principal hurled abuses and assaulted him.
It was also learnt that the principal was angry with Saddam as he had previously got a sting operation conducted on him wherein the former was allegedly captured in camera demanding Rs 1.37 lakh fee, including course fee of Rs 70000 and the rest amount as donation, for granting admission in Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) course.
