Indore : City is moving swiftly to become a health hub of the state and also selected for Smart City but poor patients here are still deprived of specialized treatment.

Recently, the citizens witnessed preparation of Green Corridors for transporting organs to other hospitals. But all these took place only with the help of private hospitals as there is no nephrologist in the state-run hospitals of this city soon to be made Smart City.

Specialized treatment is still a distant dream for the poor, who are deprived of transplantation facility and dialysis. However, the health department set up dialysis units at District Hospital, PC Sethi Hospital and MY Hospital, established by MGM Medical College, but the authorities have forgotten to provide nephrologists there.

The dialysis unit in MY Hospital is supervised by doctors of Medicine Department as they got poor response over the call of nephrologist of the hospital.

The city is witnessing a huge surge in the number of kidney patients. According to the experts, the reason for this is the growing population of diabetics.

Experts claimed that the dilly-dallying attitude of the officials in Bhopal is the main reason for poor facilities in the city as various proposals are pending with them.

“Kidney Transplant can be done in MY Hospital but it requires a Nephrology Unit along with trained professionals. We are transplanting corneas currently and various proposals are pending with the department in Bhopal,” HoD of Surgery Department Dr RK Mathur said.

Joint Director, Health Dr Sharad Pandit said, “We are trying to get full time nephrologists with the department and we will fulfill every requirement for the unit soon.”
