Indore : Giving a big to development work at District Hospital, the National Health Mission (NHM) has shifted the project of establishing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to Bhopal in the absence of suitable place in the hospital.
The department had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the purpose but it couldn’t be done due to pending proposal of renovation and reconstruction of District Hospital building.
According to sources, the NHM had sanctioned the amount to establish the NICU in the District Hospital and also chosen the place for the same.
“National Rehabilitation Centre has been running at the place which was selected for NICU. It was decided that the NRC centre will be shifted on the first floor but it couldn’t be done due to the poor state of affairs,” sources said.
The place selected for NRC was made up of card boards and it may put the life of children in danger. “New place for the purpose has not been chosen because the proposal for reconstructing the building is already pending due to which new construction is avoided by the hospital administration,” sources added.
However, many proposals were sent for the reconstruction of the building yet but the file has not moved a bit in terms of ground reality. Depressed by the negligence of the department, officials had also ordered the hospital administration to start maintenance work without any permission in the hospital.
Poor patients have to face ordeal due to the dilly-dallying of officials as they have to pay about Rs 2000-5000 for one day of NICU.
“The NRHM has shifted the project of NICU to Bhopal due to some technical reasons. Yes, Rs 50 lakh were sanctioned but it couldn’t be possible to establish the unit in District Hospital,” Civil Surgeon Dr Dilip Acharya said.
